Pro Tips:
Set out all ingredients before you start, it really helps the recipe move along quickly and easily.
Use a spatula large enough to hold entire meat patty so that it’s fully supported when being handled.
Sear 2 patties at a time so that you can easily flip them in the pan.
Onions and/or Mushrooms can be eliminated from the gravy if preferred.
This recipe is in The Cozy Cookbook on page 71!
To thicken the gravy with a roux (butter + flour), instead of a slurry, (cornstarch + water):
Melt 2 Tablespoons of butter in the pan after you soften the onions/mushrooms.
Whisk in 2 Tablespoons of flour. Continue whisking for 1 minute to cook off the raw flour taste.
Slowly add the beef broth, whisking continuously as you do so.
Add the seasonings, bring to a boil, and reduce to a simmer. Add the Steaks back to the pan. Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes.

This meal is absolutely delicious! I had to improvise a bit. My mushrooms went bad so I used 1/2 an onion and cut it shoestring style. I also was out of beef bouillon, so used chicken instead. The gravy had great depth of flavor and my husband isn’t a huge mushroom fan, so I think he preferred the recipe tweak. This will definitely be going into our meal rotation.
You nailed it. So good. Perfect comfort food for a rainy cold day.
This is definitely a keeper, it came out absolutely delicious. I made mine GF with gf bread crumbs and it held together perfectly. I added a dusting of thyme on top just before serving.
ANOTHER HIT!!!!!!! Everyone was extremely pleased with my dinner choice last night! YUM!!!
I made this tonight for my husband and brother in law. They both kept just humming about how great it was. My husband even said, because I made your chicken piccata last night.. he kept saying boy I thought last nights dinner topped it all, but this! This is sooo good and since it’s his birthday next week, he asked for this again haha! I’m like I told you wherever you want to go out.. he said no this is soo much better I want this. Hahaha so thank you! If you haven’t made it, DO!!

Made this for dinner last night and it was amazing! My husband, who hates meatloaf, loved this dish. I think the panade makes this recipe really work! I will definitely make it again. Thanks for a great recipe!
