Adobe Bread

No reviews yet

Adobe bread is a traditional bread of the southwest and can be made with just a few, simple ingredients and contains 30 grams of protein. There really is nothing more inviting than the smell of fresh bread in the kitchen, and once you start making your own bread, grocery store bread may just become a thing of the past. As a suggestion, you can serve this alongside our recipe for Hominy and Chicken Stew.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Soften the yeast in the warm water in a large mixing bowl. Then mix the melted lard or shortening and the salt.

  2. Add the flour alternately with the water, sifting the flour in a little at a time and beating well after each addition to make a smooth mixture you will probably have to knead in the final cup of flour.

  3. Shape the dough into a ball, place in a greased bowl, brush lightly with melted lard or shortening, cover with a dry cloth, and set in a warm place to rise for about 1 hour.
