  1. To make simple syrup, combine 1 cup water with 1 cup granulated sugar in a small saucepan. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves or mixture starts to boil. Remove from heat and cool slightly. (Yields approximately 1 ¼ cups of simple syrup.)
