Best Ever Caramel Frosting
This quintessential recipe can be made well in advance and will make the most of your favorite cake!Servings: 2½+ cups
Slow-Baked Banana Bread
This makes two large loaves, freezes well, and mixes up in one bowl.
Ginger Cumin Almonds
Roasted Garbanzos
After making these many times, I have learned that allowing the garbanzos to get really dry and then reducing the oven temperature after the initial 15 minutes results in a thoroughly crisp snack with less chance of over-browning. You can even allow the drained beans to rest on a tea towel or a few layers of paper towels on the counter for a couple of hours. Beyond that, wrap and store in the refrigerator until ready to roast.
Gladys Langford’s Apple Cake
My grandmother often served this cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, although it truly requires no adornment. The recipe generously fills a 9×13 cake pan. As an option, you may bake in two 8-inch square pans or two 9-inch round pans. The cake freezes well and is sure to delight as an unexpected gift. Alternatively, the recipe may be cut in half. To “split” the odd egg, crack it into a small bowl, beat lightly, and add 2 tablespoons of it to the batter. Discard the other half or save for scrambled eggs. Yields 16 servings.
Curried Shrimp with Tomatoes
Quick to cook and loaded with flavor, this one-pan meal is delightful served over rice, polenta, or with a piece of crusty bread.Servings: 2-3 servings
