Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use other toppings for this casserole?

A: Yes, you can substitute the fried onions for crackers or a breadcrumb topping.

Q: Why is my green bean casserole watery?

A: Make sure you drain your green beans thoroughly before adding them to the casserole. Otherwise, the sauce will become watery.

Q: Which is better: frozen or canned green beans for green bean casserole?

A: I prefer frozen green beans to canned green beans when making a casserole. The frozen green beans hold their shape and texture whereas the canned green beans turn mushy/super soft. It’s up to your personal preference as both kinds of green beans will work.

Q: Can I use garlic powder instead of fresh garlic?

A: Yes, you can use garlic powder in place of fresh minced garlic. Just skip the sauté step and add the garlic powder when melting the Velveeta.
